ENDOSCOPY

What is this ?

Endoscopy, in its simplest terms, means looking inside the body for medical reasons, with the help of an endoscope, an instrument which consists of a specialized flexible tube with an attached camera, that captures and transmits images as they are present within the body. The concerned doctor might use forceps and scissors for the purpose, and depending upon the area of the body operated upon, the patient might be fully conscious or under general anesthesia.

Why do I need this :

You may need to undergo endoscopy, for one or more than one of the following cases:

  1. When a cancerous growth is suspected within the body and the concerned doctor needs confirmation of the same.
  2. When there are potential problems present internally, and the doctor can view them without any large incisions being made.
  3. In endoscopic biopsy, a pair of forceps is present which can remove a small tissue sample of the suspected region for lab tests.
