Holter monitoring refers to a 24 hour, 48 hour or a longer period of continuous monitoring of your heart rate and rhythm; so that a comprehensive idea of your cardiac health can be obtained. It is a battery operated portable device with a size almost equal to that of a small camera. Your concerned doctor might suggest you to wear a Holter device for two days, which, though inconvenient, is important as it helps physicians to meticulously judge your condition.
Heart rhythm irregularities (arrhythmia), atrial fibrillation, multifocal atrial tachycardia, palpitation, ventricular tachycardia etc. cannot be detected by a normal electrocardiogram, and that is where Holter comes in handy.
Holter monitoring helps to know whether your heart is getting enough oxygen or whether the electric impulses in the heart are delayed.
It helps to determine whether your medicines are working, whether your heart races or skips a beat or whether you have symptoms of dizziness, faintness.
It helps to diagnose your heart conditions on a long-term basis, which is essential for your overall and inclusive well-being.
Our certified technician, first of all, attaches the electrodes to your chest. Once they are in place, he/ she helps you put on the Holter monitor and also how to take proper care of it. This monitor has a great ease of being carried and you can put it in a pocket, pouch, attach to your wrist, or can simply sling across your shoulders.
Do your normal daily activities and all of them will be automatically registered.
This is a totally painless procedure and no risks are associated with it. However, it is advisable not to bath, shower or swim while wearing the monitor. X-ray fields, high voltage areas, metal detectors or large magnets are strictly to be avoided.
