ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPHY (OPG)

What is this ?

Orthopantomography, or OPG, is the special radiograph method to get a panoramic view of the teeth and bones of the upper and lower jaw. It differs from a normal x-ray in the aspect that, in a normal x-ray report, detailed pictures of the jaw bones are not available. Whereas the OPG machine is specially constructed so that it can rotate around the jaw bones, thus providing precise and accurate ideas about the structure of the jaw bone.

It is a completely painless, secure and non-invasive process.

Why do I need this:

OPG is used in a wide variety of conditions like infections, congenital abnormalities, tumors, pre-implant evaluation and trauma.

OPG is the most reliable tool for general and special purposes for orthodontists, general dentists, and prosthodontists/ implantologists.

Services offered :

Our expert oral surgeons will look into your situation/case specifically and will recommend OPG. However, cephalograms are needed prior to surgery planning and teeth manipulation.

If a female patient thinks she is pregnant or there are chances of pregnancy, then just like x-rays, OPG is not recommended to her.

What shall I expect :

You may be asked to remove jewellery or any metal objects that may obscure the images and thus might produce erroneous reports.

You are expected to stand facing the machine with your chin resting on a small platform, and to gently bite on a small sterile mouthpiece to prevent movement of your head.

You will not feel any pain or discomfort during the entire process, and it generally lasts for about 20 minutes.
